Insurance Charity’s Golf Tourney for Children Adds New Casino Night
For seven years every October the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has held its annual charity golf tournament to benefit children. But this year is different.
For one thing, the venue has been moved to the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, in Mission Viejo, one of the newest courses in Orange County.
For another, the tournament is augmented this year with a casino night for those not so interested in golf.
The Arroyo Trabuco course is an 18-hole course, with a par 72, set on 240 acres in the midst of Trabuco Creek and the Ladera Open Space Preserve.
The casino night is drawing huge interest, says Kristen Mauger Allison, president of Burnham Benefits Insurance Services and the new chairperson for the Insuring the Children Program.
“We’re trying to mix it up a little bit, and make sure that we get other people involved, and get them to know about the Insuring the Children Program,” she says. “We want to reach out to all sectors of the insurance industry. It’s for property and casualty, employee benefits, the life side, attorneys, claims processing. So it’s not just solely to brokers and agents. It’s to all companies associated to the insurance industry.”
The casino night will of course feature tables. But there will also be entertainment and a silent auction.
“We’re getting some great gifts from different vendors, and hotels, and golf courses,” Allison says. “We have a Ms. Pac-Man.”
The Insuring the Children Program is dedicated to raising awareness of child abuse and neglect in Southern California. It supports prevention programs and emergency care services throughout the local community. Among those endeavors that have been helped are the YMCA Art Program and Childhelp, a national group with regional offices that has a hotline for abused or neglected children, runs group homes, and does education and community outreach.
“Our sole purpose is to raise awareness of the child abuse and help in fighting that cause in providing our money, our volunteer work, and getting the word out within the insurance industry to give back to our local communities,” says Allison, about the Insuring the Children Program.
The date for the event is Tuesday, October 27, 2009. The Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club is located at 26772 Avery Parkway, Mission Viejo. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and goes to 11:45 a.m. The shotgun start begins at noon. The casino night begins at 5:00 p.m. and continues until 9:00 p.m.
