Utah Man Pleads Guilty in Fire at Historic Mill
A 26-year-old man has pleaded guilty to third-degree felony counts of burglary and attempted arson in a 2008 blaze that gutted a historic mill in Brigham City.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reported Saturday that Luke Hunsaker awaits sentencing July 7 in 1st District Court after accepting a plea deal. The original second-degree felony charge of arson was dropped.
Hunsaker was questioned at the time of the fire but denied any involvement.
He was arrested in January after investigators received an anonymous tip. Police say he confessed during an interview to starting the fire at the Merrill Planing Mill in the early morning of Nov. 10, 2008.
The exterior stone walls are all that remains of the mill, which was built in 1875.
