Utah City Considers Banning Skateboards on Streets
A northern Utah city may ban skateboards on streets because of a concern about vehicle and pedestrian safety.
The Logan Herald Journal reports Richmond city officials are considering an ordinance to prohibit the skateboarders because of complaints about riders in the middle of the street.
City Manager Marlowe Adkins says the proposal is not meant to punish skateboarders.
Adkins says police officers have talked to skateboarders but they need laws to enforce the safety measures.
Snowmobiles are already banned on Richmond streets because of similar safety concerns.
Councilman Brad Jensen says the issue frustrating because skateboarders are also threatening the safety of pedestrians, especially children.
The Richmond City Council will be discussing the proposal again on June 8.
