State Police to Swarm Arizona Highways Today
Arizona drivers can expect to see a major police presence on the roads the day before Thanksgiving, one of the busiest travel days of the year.
The state Department of Public Safety says that highway patrol officers will be stationed every 10 miles in rural areas along the four major highways in Arizona and every 2 miles in major metro areas like Phoenix and Tucson.
Those highways are Interstates 8, 10, 17 and 40.
The department says the goal is to ensure a quick response to accidents along the highways and maintain a “zero tolerance” approach to speeding, tailgating and unsafe lane changes.
During the Thanksgiving weekend last year, DPS says that 13 people were killed in crashes across the state. Four were alcohol-related.
