Montana City Cellphone Ban Takes Effect Today
Helena is joining Billings, Missoula and Butte in enacting a ban on the use of cellphones while driving, unless the driver is using a hands-free device. The new ordinance calls for a fine of up to $100.
Police Chief Troy McGee tells the Independent Record that officers will issue warnings rather than tickets for the first month.
Assistant public works director Phil Hauck says two dozen signs noting the ban will be posted at the city’s entrances about the time the warning period is over.
Bozeman’s new cellphone ordinance goes into effect in January.
