Oregon Port Settles with Insurers for $550K
Oregon’s Port of Astoria has settled with six insurance companies for $550,000 in a case involving past petroleum spills by several oil companies on port property.
Port Executive Director Jack Crider tells the Daily Astorian that he thinks this week’s agreement is fair.
The insurers have been in discussions with the port over who would pay what for cleanup of five sites on port property.
The sites include property on which petroleum was stored in bulk and distributed between the 1900s and 1990s by various oil companies. Tank leakage and broken underground fuel lines led to contamination.
