Arizona Councilman Wants Deadly Crosswalk Investigated
A Tucson, Ariz., councilman wants a deadly crosswalk made safer after a 13-year-old boy was killed last week. KVOA-TV reports Ward six Councilman Steve Kozachik has asked the City Department of Transportation to look into putting a traffic light for pedestrians at 22nd Street and Randolph Parkway.
There’s no traffic light at the crosswalk and there are six lanes with a speed limit of 40 miles per hour.
The city has specific rules for where they can put a signal.
The crossing must have 190 pedestrians in four hours, or it must have 100 pedestrians in the busiest hour of the day.
Signals cannot be within 300 feet of another traffic light.
A city spokesman says the last pedestrian signal the city installed cost $80,000.
