Dozens of Utah Homes Evacuated as Wildfire Grows
About 30 homes have been evacuated as a brush fire broke out in the foothills south of Ogden, Utah.
Authorities say the wildfire, known as the Ridges Fire, could threaten a Layton neighborhood if the wind shifts, and the evacuations were ordered as a precaution.
Fire crews were preparing to spend the night to defend homes in the area if necessary.
The Deseret News reports late Saturday that officials expect the small, but rapidly growing fire, which began earlier in evening near Highway 89, to burn for several days.
No cause has been determined.
The fire has charred about 10 acres of steep, rugged terrain in just a few hours, and dozens of families have reported seeing the smoke from their neighborhood.
