San Francisco Seeking $1.2M for Costs in Fan Beating
San Francisco officials are seeking $1.2 million from the Los Angeles Dodgers to cover the unpaid medical costs for Bryan Stow, a San Francisco Giants fan who was brutally beaten in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium.
In recent filings in federal Bankruptcy Court, San Francisco is seeking reimbursement from the Dodgers for medical bills not covered by Stow’s personal medical insurance, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.
During the March 31, 2011, attack after the season opener between the Dodgers and the Giants, Stow was beaten so badly that he suffered serious brain injuries.
The 43-year-old spent months at a Los Angeles hospital in a medically induced coma before being transferred to San Francisco General Hospital, where he spent five months before being moved to a rehabilitation center.
Attorneys for Stow’s family have estimated that his lifetime medical care could cost more than $50 million.
The Dodgers sought bankruptcy protection in June 2011, with owner Frank McCourt eventually selling the team for $2 billion.
The bankruptcy-related filings by San Francisco follow the Stow family’s lawsuit against the Dodgers claiming that lax security and other problems contributed to the attack.
The Dodgers did not immediately respond to requests Monday night from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Two Southern California men have pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with Snow’s beating.
