Report Finds Some California Officers Shoot Too Many Times
A police auditor’s report says some Fresno, Calif., officers fire their weapons too many times during officer-involved shootings.
The findings were released Friday by Fresno’s new police auditor Rick Rasmussen.
Rasmussen wrote that while not all officers are guilty of firing too many times, “it is a trend that appears to be high.”
The report covers the last three months of 2012.
Rasmussen said top police officials are aware of the trend. He also praised the skills of officials involved in investigating officer shootings.
Critics have accused the Fresno Police Department of excessive use of force and inappropriate shootings of civilians.
