Nearly 560 DUI Arrests in Arizona During Holiday
Authorities say nearly 560 people around Arizona were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
According to a report by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, officers and deputies made more than 13,000 stops from May 23 to Tuesday morning.
That’s the fewest stops since 2010.
However, task force officers made 499 DUI misdemeanor arrests and 60 aggravated DUI arrests. Of those, 148 were for extreme DUI.
Officers also arrested 31 people younger than 21 for DUI and issued 340 citations for underage drinking.
About 1,660 officers from 70 agencies participated in the task force this time.
During last year’s Memorial Day weekend, 547 DUI arrests were made.
