N.J. Agent Charged with Stealing from Clients
New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice Director Vaughn McKoy announced that the Division of Criminal Justice – Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor has obtained an indictment charging a Somerset County insurance agent with theft for stealing insurance premium money from policy purchasers.
According to McKoy and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden-Brown, Erica Nanne, 36, of High Bridge, Hunterdon County, was charged with theft by failure to make required disposition (3rd degree). If convicted, Nanne faces up to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
The Feb. 3 Somerset County Grand Jury indictment alleges that between March 19 and July 15, 2003, Nanne, a licensed insurance agent formerly employed by Mondoro Agency Inc., Rte. 206, Hillsborough, Somerset County, stole approximately $4,863 in insurance premiums from at least 13 insurance customers who had given her the money to purchase insurance.
An investigation by the Division of Criminal Justice – Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor determined that, instead of remitting the money to the appropriate insurance companies for the insurance coverage, Nanne used the money for her personal benefit.
Following the discovering of the alleged scam, Mondoro Agency paid all of the premium shortfalls so that none of the agency’s clients would be effected.
