Vermont Needs to Find More Flood Damage for Federal Help
Vermont state and local officials need to find another $100,000 in flood damage to seek a federal disaster declaration to help repair damage in different parts of Vermont.
And of that total, $63,000 has to be in Rutland County.
But Vermont Agency of Transportation spokesman John Zicconi says officials aren’t finished assessing the damage in a number of communities.
Zicconi says none of the damage will by itself allow the state to reach the threshold, but every little bit helps.
If the damage from last week’s storms tops $1 million, Gov. Jim Douglas can ask the Federal Emergency Management Agency to issue a disaster declaration.
Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras says much of the city’s damaged has not been assessed.
