Maryland City Settles Police Office Construction Suit for $5M
The City of Annapolis, Maryland has settled a lawsuit for nearly $5 million from a construction company contracted for renovations to the police department.
Mayor Ellen Moyer said Garcete Construction will pay the city $3.95 million in cash and allow the city to keep $980,000 the city’s already received.
The city says it kicked Garcete off the job in 2007 because workers were doing shoddy work while renovating the city’s police department.
The lawsuit settlement was announced Monday night at the city council meeting. Mediation more than a week ago led to the agreement, which city and Garcete officials will sign this week.
Annapolis has since hired another construction company to complete the police department renovation.
