Virginia Seeks Federal Help for December Storms
Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is asking for federal disaster assistance to help Virginia localities hard hit by a December snowstorm.
Kaine is asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reimburse state agencies and 40 localities for damage to public infrastructure and for costs associated with debris and snow removal and related emergency services.
More than 2 feet of snow fell in parts of Virginia from Dec. 18 to 20. State Police responded to more than 3,300 traffic accidents and more than 71,000 power outages were reported. An estimated 2,000 people went to shelters during and after the storm.
