Vermont Settles Complaint with Dollar Tree Stores
The Vermont Attorney General’s office says Dollar Tree Stores is going to pay $100,000 in civil penalties and costs to settle a complaint it sold in the state jewelry containing high amounts of lead and cadmium.
The issue followed reports in late 2007 that certain items of jewelry at Vermont Dollar Tree contained high levels of the two metals.
The Attorney General’s Office had four items of jewelry from a Dollar Tree store in Vermont tested. The items had levels of lead and cadmium above the legal limit.
Dollar Tree spokesman Timothy Reid says that as soon as they company learned its product contained the metals they were removed from stores nationwide.
He says that since 2008 Dollar Tree has not sold metal jewelry.
