Vermont School Had $200K in Winter Flood Damage
School officials in Vermont say winter flooding at a Bennington elementary school caused $200,000 in damage.
Officials say the Jan. 17 water main break at the Molly Stark Elementary School affected 17 rooms and closed the school until Jan. 28.
Richard Pembroke of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union says the district is negotiating with its insurance company about the payment.
The Bennington Banner says officials estimated 300,000 gallons of water leaked from the break, which caused up to an inch of muddy water to flow though areas of the school.
The damage required the school to replace some carpets and drywall.
