Fire Damages 5 Businesses in Connecticut
Authorities in Bridgeport, Connecticut are trying to determine the cause of a large fire that heavily damaged five businesses and displaced more than a dozen people from their homes in the city’s Black Rock section.
The Connecticut Post reports that the fire that began late Saturday morning appeared to begin in Marty’s Brick Pizza and More restaurant on Fairfield Avenue and spread rapidly to the other businesses. No injuries were reported.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the blaze, which also drew more than 200 spectators and sent heavy smoke through the neighborhood.
The restaurant wasn’t open when the fire began. The restaurant’s owner, City Councilman Marty McCarthy, says he plans to rebuild.
American Red Cross officials worked to relocate tenants who lived in several apartments above the restaurant.
