New Jersey Assembly Examines Post-Sandy Insurance Claims

Legislators in the New Jersey Assembly will hear about insurance issues cropping up in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The panel on Thursday will examine responsiveness to insurance claims and how well insurance companies are covering residential and business claims.

The superstorm destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and businesses.

Representatives from the Banking and Insurance Department are among those scheduled to testify at the session. The Legislature has been holding hearings on various issues affecting residents after Sandy.

Also Thursday, a different Assembly panel will examine how the state’s electric companies handled the historic storm. About 30 members of the Assembly toured the storm-ravaged Shore last week.

The Senate is also holding storm-related hearings in Trenton and elsewhere around the state.
