New York City Construction Scaffolding Collapses, Injuring 4

November 4, 2013

Authorities say construction scaffolding collapsed in New York City, injuring four people, and that high winds may have been a factor.

The city fire department says three people were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening. A firefighter was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The New York Post says a plywood and metal wall crashed onto two women and a man at around 10 a.m. Friday.

A food cart vendor, Aziz Ahmady of Brooklyn, was among the onlookers who helped pull the women from the debris. He says they were “crying out for help.”

The Department of Buildings had issued a warning to property owners Friday to secure construction sites and buildings as high winds whip through the area.
