Hghway Collision Kills 9, Injures 5 in Dominican Republic
Nine people have died in a collision between a bus and a truck in the Dominican Republic.
Police say five people have been injured in the accident near the town of Tabara Abajo, in the southwest of the Caribbean country. A police statement says the drivers of both vehicles were among the injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The bus was traveling from the town of Tamayo and heading to Santo Domingo when the crash occurred late Monday.
The World Health Organization reports that the Dominican Republic has a road fatality rate of nearly 42 per 100,000 inhabitants, among the highest in the world.
