Mich. Complaints Down 12% From 2002
Virtually every line of insurance coverage saw reductions in the number of complaints to the Michigan agency which regulates the industry.
The Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services received 5,816 complaints against insurers in 2003, down 12 percent from 6,543 in 2002.
The OFIS Web site provides information on how to file a complaint as well as complaint statistics. The statistical breakdown of complaints (available here) includes:
—3,613 complaints against insurance companies, 889 against Blue Cross Blue Shield, 476 against HMOs, and a variety of 819 other complaints;
—Complaint totals for types of insurance like accident and health, annuity, automobile, homeowners and life, as well as a breakdown of complaint types.
