Ohio Man Nabbed in Workers’ Comp Fraud Case
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) announced a Vinton County man has been sentenced for a misdemeanor charge of workers’ compensation fraud.
Bruce Martin was sentenced to two years probation, ordered to pay $477.60 in restitution and $500 in investigative costs. BWC received $360 in restitution before the hearing.
BWC’s special investigations unit (SIU) learned of possible fraud by Martin when the bureau’s automated detection & intelligence team (AD&I) administered a cross match with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The cross match reportedly indicated Martin was working while receiving workers’ comp benefits and the SIU confirmed he was employed by Millennium Teleservices as a telemarketer.
Martin suffered injuries to his back in June 1989 while working for John Valentine Masonry. BWC awarded Martin temporary total disability benefits for his injury.
