Iowa House Advances Police Accident Bill
The House unanimously passed a bill that would prohibit insurance companies from considering traffic accidents police officers have in the line of duty from affecting their personal vehicle insurance rates.
Under the legislation, an accident on duty would not count against that officer unless it results from the officer’s reckless operation of the motor vehicle or reckless disregard for the safety of others.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety would investigate the accidents.
