Illinois Jury Awards $5.3M in Stroke Death of 24-Year-Old
A DuPage County Circuit Court in Illinois has awarded a $5.3 million settlement to the husband of a 24-year-old Carol Stream woman who died of a stroke.
The settlement was announced Aug. 26.
Attorneys representing the family of Samantha Medina said doctors at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield failed to properly evaluate and treat her.
Medina was taken to the hospital on Dec. 10, 2006, after complaining of a sudden headache and numbness on her right side. She died 17 days later.
The settlement will be paid on behalf of the hospital, radiologist Dr. Mark Kelly and his practice, and Dr. Henry Echiverri and his practice.
Echiverri’s attorney said all of Echiverri’s care was completely appropriate. Attorneys for the other defendants were not available for comment.
