Iowa Couple Awarded $1.3 Million in Childbirth Suit
A Cedar Falls couple has been awarded $1.3 million in their lawsuit against the doctor who delivered their baby.
A jury deliberated for about five hours before awarding Alan and Larysa the funds for injuries to their daughter during childbirth.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that attorneys for the Ashers said Dr. Anthony Onuigbo failed to diagnose that the infant’s shoulder was stuck during birth and used excessive traction to remove her in November 2006.
The girl has permanent injuries to the brachial plexus and has limited use of her left arm.
The defense argued that the girl’s shoulder wasn’t stuck and that her injuries were the result of the natural forces of labor.
