CPCU Society Names 2005-06 Officers and Governors
The CPCU Society has announced its new officers and governors, effective immediately.
The following officers have been officially elected:
The CPCU Society’s incoming president, Millicent W. Workman, CPCU, CPIW, is a Risk Management Consultant based in Memphis, Tenn..
CPCU Society National Vice President: James L. Britt, CPCU, managing director at Marsh USA Inc. in Charlotte, N.C., will serve a one-year term as vice president, after which he will automatically move into the positions of president-elect, president, and immediate past president. An active member and past president of the Society’s Charlotte Chapter, Britt chaired the 2004 Annual Meeting Task Force. He is a certified facilitator and master trainer for the CPCU Society National Leadership Institute’s “Facilitative Leadership Skills†course, and a contributing member of the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation.
Secretary/Treasurer: Larry L. Klein, CPCU, is a Vice President, Pricing for the Alternative Solutions-Group Captives Business Unit of Zurich North America in Schaumburg, Ill. Klein, who served as the Society’s 2002-2005 Secretary/Treasurer, will serve a second three-year term. He is a member of the CPCU Society’s Chicago-Northwest Suburban Chapter, and a past member and president of the Philadelphia Chapter. He also served on the Board of Governors as a national section governor and as a third-year governor on the Executive Committee.
President-Elect: Betsey L. Brewer, CPCU, is senior vice president of The Rule Company in Pasadena, Calif. A member and past president of the Society’s Los Angeles Chapter, Brewer is currently serving as a member of the chapter’s Board of Directors. Nationally, she has served as a CPCU Society governor from 1998 to 2002, and as a third-year governor on the Executive Committee. Brewer has also served on a number of Society task forces and chapter committees. Outside of the Society, she is a member of the Board of Directors for IBA-West and the Insurance Skills Center, and a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of Los Angeles.
The following Governors, who will serve a three-year term, are:
Ulrich “Rick†Becker, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, is the underwriting/product director for Nationwide Insurance in the Virginia Regional Operation. Becker is a past president of the Society’s Alamo and Central Virginia Chapters, and a charter completer of the CPCU Society National Leadership Institute. He currently serves on the Underwriting Section Committee and as editor of the section’s Underwriting Trends newsletter. He also serves on the Board of Virginia Auto Insurance Plan and Virginia Property Insurance Plan, as well as co-chair of Drive Smart Virginia Advisory Board.
Lynn M. Davenport, CPCU, is a claim team manager with State Farm Group in Greeley, Colo. A member of the CPCU class of 1999, Davenport is an active member of the Colorado Chapter, as well as the IT Section Committee. She served on the Society’s Distance Mentoring Task Force.
Joseph E. Deutsch, CPCU, CIC, is a marketing manager at Community Financial Insurance Center in Monroe, La. He received his designation in 1993 and is currently president of the Northeastern Louisiana Chapter, where he has served in all its officer positions. Deutsch also served the Central Illinois Chapter as membership chairman and executive board member.
Warren L. Farrar, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, is assistant vice president-claims for State Farm Insurance Companies in Bloomington, Ill. Since receiving his CPCU designation in 1988, he has been a member of the Central Illinois Chapter. Nationally, he has been a member of the Loss Control Section Committee since 1992 and is a past chairman. He also served on the Strategic Alliance Task Force in 1999.
Robin C. Federici, CPCU, CPIW, is president of Insurance Education and Training Associates, L.L.C., in North Kingstown, R.I. A CPCU since 1992, she is a member and past president of the Rhode Island Chapter. She is a current member of the chapter’s Scholarship Committee and has chaired a number of other chapter committees. She received the Award for Academic Excellence from the Insurance Institute of America for achieving the highest national grade point average in the Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI) designation program.
Thomas C. Glasson, CPCU, is vice president of AIG in Dallas, Texas. Since receiving his CPCU designation in 1991, he has been a member and past president of the Dallas Chapter. He has also chaired the chapter’s All-Industry Day Committee, as well as other chapter committees. He previously served as an instructor for CPCU classes held at El Centro College. Nationally, he is a member of the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation. He is also a member of the Insurance Council of Texas, and has previously served on a legislative advisory committee to the Texas Workers Compensation Commission.
Michael A. Lawrence, CPCU, is zone manager of GEICO in Macon, Ga. A CPCU since 1988, he is past president of the Middle Georgia Chapter, where he served two terms as president. He is also a past vice president and chapter board member, and has served on a number of chapter committees. Nationally, he has served on the Society’s Chapter Scholarship Task Force.
Marlys L. Maciona, CPCU, is a senior commercial customer service agent for CRB Insurance in Racine, Wisc. She received her CPCU designation in 1993 and is a member and past president of the Greater Milwaukee Chapter. Currently, she is chairman of the chapter’s Blues Fest Committee (a Good Works project). She has also served as coordinator of the President’s Award and chaired a number of chapter committees. Nationally, she is a member of the Agent & Broker Section Committee.
Dean L. Middour, CPCU, CLU, is president and chief operating officer of Thoits Insurance Service, Inc. in Mountain View, Calif. A CPCU since 1975, he is a past president and director of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Currently a member of the Society’s Agent & Broker Section Committee, he was a national governor from 1998 to 2001 and has served on various committees. In addition, Middour is an instructor for the Insurance Educational Association and has received numerous industry awards, including being voted Outstanding Insurance Person of the Year by the Insurance Women of Santa Clara.
Michael B. Weinberg, J.D., CPCU, is a partner at Donovan Hatem LLP, in Boston, Mass. Weinberg earned his CPCU designation in 1995 and is active in the Boston Chapter, where he is a past president and past chairman of the Program and Membership Committees. On the national level, he is a member of the Society’s Ethics Committee.
Nannette A. Zimmerebner, CPCU, is a senior staff underwriter for USAA in San Antonio, Texas. A CPCU since 1994, she is a member and a past president of the Alamo Chapter. She has also served the chapter as president-elect, vice president, secretary, director, sections liaison, and member of two committees.
