Conn. Recalls Personal-Care Kits, Citing Toxic Toothpaste
Thousands of personal-care kits placed in local emergency shelters around the state have been recalled because of toxic toothpaste.
The state has recalled 8,000 such kits because they contain toothpaste made in China that contains a compound found in antifreeze.
Officials from the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security have told public safety officials in northwestern Connecticut that the kits must be collected and destroyed before they are distributed to the public.
The toothpaste is in kits delivered with portable cots to emergency storage centers throughout the state.
The state already has destroyed 4,000 kits, half the supply sent to Connecticut by a vendor in Nevada.
