Jeep Liberty Fire Probe Closed
U.S. safety regulators have closed an investigation into driver’s side door fires in Jeep Liberty SUVs without seeking a recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it investigated complaints of fires in the power window switches on 2012 Libertys. But it found that the failure rate for the switches was low, and the rate of fires was even lower.
Initially the agency said it had two complaints about fires in the driver’s side window switch. But investigators found that one fire didn’t start in the switch.
The agency said in documents posted Thursday that it found no indication of a trend, so it closed the probe.
The investigation covered 104,593 Libertys.
