Rogue Agent Continues Operating in Northwest Ark.
Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Mike Pickens issued a warning that despite his arrest for fraud, Steven Edward Gwin, better known as Steve Gwin, is continuing to sell insurance products in the Northwest Arkansas area. According to the Arkansas Insurance Department, Gwin was arrested last month and charged with a class D felony count of Fraudulent Insurance Act.
“We are warning the general public that Mr. Gwin is operating illegally in the State of Arkansas,” Commissioner Pickens said. “Individuals should not purchase insurance products or engage in any type of insurance transactions with Steve Gwin.”
According to investigators with the insurance department’s Fraud Investigation Division, Gwin falsely indicated he had not been convicted of a crime on his application for licensure to sell insurance in the State of Arkansas. The department later found out that Gwin had been convicted of fraud in federal court in Ohio in 1991, for which he served 20 months in jail and was placed on three years probation. Gwin submitted his application for an insurance license to the state of Arkansas on or about Sept. 19, 2000. His license has since been revoked.
The department learned that Gwin sold at least two insurance products in the Bella Vista area as recently as last month. The Fraud Investigation Division of the Arkansas Insurance Department is interested in speaking with anyone who might have done business with Gwin or the companies he represents, Asset Management Group, and Senior Advisors. Comments or questions concerning Gwin may be directed to Fraud Investigator Jacquie Harper at (866) 660-0888 or (501) 371-2790.
A Jan. 21, 2004 court date for Gwin has been set in Pulaski County.
