Ark. Insurance Commissioner, Staff to Hold NAIC Posts
The Arkansas Insurance Department reported that state Insurance Commissioner Julie Benafield Bowman has been elected vice-chair of the Southeastern Zone of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Her election took place at the organization’s spring meeting in New York.
The Southeastern Zone is comprised of commissioners and regulators from Florida, West Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Bowman was appointed to a four year term as Insurance Commissioner, Jan. 15, 2005, by former governor Mike Huckabee.
Selected as chairman of the NAIC’s Antifraud Task Force Seminar and Training Working Group is Cory Cox, Director of the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. The mission of the NAIC Antifraud Task Force is to serve the public interest by assisting the state insurance supervisory officials, individually and collectively to promote the public interest through the detection, monitoring, and appropriate referral for investigation of insurance crime, both by and against consumers. As chairman of this working group, Cox will plan, coordinate, and host two national training conferences on insurance fraud investigation and prosecution.
Bill Lacy, the department’s Property and Casualty Division director, has been elected to the Board of Directors of SERFF which is a System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing utilized by the insurance departments of all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 1,700 insurance companies. The SERFF system is overseen by the Board and the NAIC.
Recently appointed chair of the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee for the Arkansas Bar Association is Zane Chrisman an attorney in the Legal Division of the Arkansas Insurance Department. The committee is responsible for reviewing the current means and systems of legal education in Arkansas and promoting the CLE program of the Association.
