Improved Fire Rating in Louisiana Parish Means Lower Insurance Rates
Homeowners in the Grand Chenier area will be paying less for fire insurance starting in August because of a higher rating awarded to the local fire district.
The American Press reports the rating for Cameron Parish Fire District 9 was raised from Class 6 to Class 5.
The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana sets ratings for fire districts, and the state insurance commissioner approves them. Ratings are on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the worst and one being the best.
District 9 Chief Mark LeBouef says the improved rating was largely the result of firefighters demonstrating quick response to fires.
