Ga. Authorities Still Looking to Park Tow Truck Operator
Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Chief Dan Flynn announced recently that an arrest warrant has been issued for suspect Russell Lee Scruggs, owner of a Savannah towing company who is believed to have obtained his city permit fraudulently.
Oxendine said Scruggs has been charged with two counts of insurance fraud. Partner Sandy Wilhelm was arrested earlier last Friday and charged with one count of insurance fraud.
Scruggs, who was still at large as of Tuesday, operated towing businesses at two addresses: 116 Randolph Street, and 4205 Montgomery Street, both in Savannah.
Commenting on the warrant for Mr. Scruggs, Flynn said, “Scruggs is
wanted for the alledged violations, and has been removed from the department’s rotation list. He has placed many residents in our community at risk of having to fork out additional expenses through his fraudulent acts. We will continue our collaboration with state authorities to identify and prosecute those who engage in this type of unlawful practice.”
Proof of insurance is required for tow operators to receive a city permit. Scruggs’ insurance documents are allegedly forgeries, according to Oxendine.
