Tennessee Probation Officer Gets $350,000 in Slander Suit

A Knox County jury awarded a former state probation officer who claimed she was slandered at work $350,000 in damages.

Jurors awarded Betty Brasfield a $250,000 judgment against ex-police officer and retired state probation officer Raymond Dyer. The panel also gave her a $100,000 judgment against ex-boyfriend Conley Dockery, who works as an investigator for an Anderson County public defender.

Brasfield claimed Dyer launched an obsessive campaign to get her fired. She contended that Dockery was enraged when they broke up and aided in the effort by lying about her during the investigation.

The two men said Brasfield was too loose in her supervising of felons.
