Kentucky Hopes Temporary Highway Barriers Will Prevent Crossover Accidents
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear says temporary concrete highway barriers will be used in an effort to prevent crossover collisions on sections of Interstate 65.
The plan is to improve safety along about 20 miles of the interstate. Barriers have already been installed on 11 miles of median in Edmonson, Barren and Hart counties. A Transportation Cabinet statement on Monday says additional barriers of the same type are planned for next year in Hardin and Hart counties.
The state announced in July that 44 miles of median cable barriers would be strung on I-65 in Bullitt, Hardin, Hart and Barren counties. A section of the Gene Snyder Expressway in Jefferson County will also get cable barriers.
