West Virginia Apartment Complex Infested with Bedbugs
West Virginia health officials says about 100 apartments at a complex in the town of Wheeling are infested with bedbugs.
Ohio County Health Department sanitarian Chuck Fisher says Woda Group LLC of Westerville, Ohio, was cited in June for violations at Providence Greene.
He said Wednesday the situation is escalating, but Woda Group is complying with requirements to assess and start correcting the problem.
Fisher says the health department has no plans to file charges against the company.
About 20 apartments have been treated by an extermination service. Fisher says he believes the company is required by law only to treat common areas.
Health department Administrator Howard Gamble calls bedbugs a public health nuisance and a psychological disaster for the people who are affected.
