Florida Construction Groups, OSHA Convene Crane Safety Meeting
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has joined forces with several construction organizations throughout Florida to actively support crane safety at construction sites in the state on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 7 to 8 a.m.
The Florida Crane Safety Alliance will conduct its first Florida “Crane Safety Stand-down.” The stand-down will be a meeting with construction contractors to educate their employees on crane and rigging safety awareness. Posters and talking points will be available from OSHA and other members of the Florida Crane Safety Alliance.
“With the signing of the Florida Crane Safety Alliance, construction employers, associations and crane companies have shown their willingness to assume responsibility and commitment to construction worker safety,” said Darlene Fossum, OSHA’s area director in Fort Lauderdale.
The Florida Crane Safety Alliance consists of OSHA; Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida; Associated General Contractors South Florida, Florida East Coast and Greater Florida Chapters; the Construction Association of South Florida, the Florida Crane Owners Council, the Florida Transportation Builders Association and the Commercial Council for the Florida Home Builders Association.
This alliance is planning to conduct an eight-hour awareness course focused on rigging safety to provide participants with the necessary safety knowledge to work around cranes and rigging.
