Mississippi County Gets Fire Department Approval
When Lamar County was planning construction on a dozen or so fire stations in 2008, consideration had been given to adding another in the north-central section of the Mississippi county.
The Hattiesburg American reports the Board of Supervisors on Monday approved creating a new station about four miles south of Sumrall.
Fire Coordinator George Stevens says many of the plans for the county’s 26th station are in the preliminary stages.
Stevens says the new station would sit between larger ones manned by Central Lamar and Oloh volunteer fire departments.
It also had not been determined which volunteer department – Oloh, Central Lamar, Hickory Grove or Sumrall – would man the station.
Stevens says the station is at least a year away from opening.
