Federal Flood Organization Notes Efforts of The Hartford in Helping Program to Grow
The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. was recognized for its contribution to the growth of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) during the recent NFIP Annual Conference in Seattle.
The Hartford, a Write Your Own (WYO) flood insurer, is one of five
recipients of the NFIP Administrator’s Club Award this year. This is the
sixth time The Hartford has won an NFIP award since it joined the federal flood program in 1994.
The Hartford’s flood program is managed by Trumbull Flood Management, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Hartford, and operates in 50 states.
Congress created the National Flood Insurance Program in 1968 in response to the rising cost of taxpayer-funded disaster relief for flood victims and the increasing amount of damage caused by floods. The program is managed by Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Mitigation Division, and provides the opportunity for all homeowners and businesses to purchase insurance protection against flood – even those in flood-prone areas. The agency also
oversees the program’s floodplain management and mapping components.
“In just 10 years The Hartford has become one of the highest volume
insurers participating in the Write Your Own program and now has more than 400,000 policies in place. This program makes it simple for agents to sell and customers to purchase federally-reinsured flood insurance along with home or business insurance,” said Denis Thompson, vice president of Trumbull and manager of the program.
“When nature strikes and people face a loss, they need fast action. Part of the program’s success stems from the excellent claim service provided by its nationwide service center,” added Thompson.
