FEMA Aid Helps Ike-Damaged Galveston Museum
A Southeast Texas flight museum battered in 2008 by Hurricane Ike will get a new home with help from a $7.6 million government grant.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday announced the funding to relocate the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston to Ellington Airport in Houston.
The Lone Star Flight Museum suffered more than $20 million in damage during Ike, which slammed Galveston in September 2008.
The FEMA grant will be added to private funds in the continuing campaign to raise $25 million for the move from Scholes International Airport. The museum is also home to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame.
Relocation plans include a 125,000-square-foot building with hangar space, an auditorium, an exhibit hall, a library, a gift shop and a cafeteria.
