PCI Appoints McKay as Federal Affairs Director
The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) announced that Benjamin J. McKay III, former chief of staff for U.S. Representative Katherine Harris (R-FL), will serve as the new director of federal affairs in its Washington D.C. office.
Before working for Representative Harris, McKay served for over a decade as senior staff in both the Florida House and Senate. His tenure included service to legislators on the insurance committees of both chambers, including the vice chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee in the Senate and a member of the Property and Casualty Subcommittee in the House.
He also served as deputy secretary for International and Legislative Affairs at the Florida Department of State under the Harris Administration and was promoted to chief of staff for the agency where he presided during the 2000 election.
“The insurance industry will face some significant challenges in the coming months and years. Critical issues like the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act extension and regulatory reform are gaining momentum in congress. We are pleased to have someone with Ben McKay’s expertise and credentials to help us frame the debate and ensure PCI members are well represented on Capitol Hill,” said Carl Parks, PCI senior vice president for federal affairs. “His legislative experience and background working on insurance issues before the House Financial Services Committee and at the state level will prove invaluable as Congress continues to grapple with key insurance issues.”
McKay earned his master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University where his course of study included U.S. Congress, negotiations and economics. McKay earned his B.S. in political science at Florida State University.
